Small-batch tableware · Jingdezhen
Rivora makes tableware in small batches. We keep the throwing rings and the uneven glaze, because those are the marks of an object that is already being used.
Limited monthly runs · Handmade · Custom sizes and glazes

Objects
From serving to holding branches, each piece works alone and answers the others on the same table.

Ø 21 cm · Terracotta body · Bone glaze
A gently undulating rim for salad, bread and a single course. Sold in threes; they stack well.

220 ml · Hand-pinched · Oat glaze
The wall keeps the pressure of fingers and sits well in the hand. Sold in pairs.

H 26 cm · Thrown · Sand-grey glaze
A narrow neck that needs only one or two branches. Made singly, each height slightly different.

Studio
The studio sits in an old workshop building in Jingdezhen. We only hold the weight, diameter and feel within a rough range for each batch; the rest is left to how the clay behaves that day.
Each piece is made by one potter from wedging to unloading the kiln. A handwritten batch number on the foot tells you which firing it came from.
Process

Every piece is thrown on its own, with weight and diameter recorded. No production moulds.
Seven days of slow drying, then trimming the foot and a bisque firing at 800°C.
Hand-dipped glaze, a 1280°C reduction firing, then every piece is sorted by hand.
FAQ
